“Chilling Echoes” – ADPZ Updates With Chilling Reign!

What is going on, Pokémon Trainers! It’s the beginning of a new format, and much like all new metagames, it’s important to look at all the new PTCGO cards from a new set to see how they’re all going to interact with one another. One of my favorite cards from the new set is Shadow Rider Calyrex VMAX, especially when combined with Cresselia. There are many new Pokemon Online decks that came out in the new PTCGO set, but there are also many mainstays within the standard format that got some… dare I say – game-breaking – updates to them! One example of this is Arceus & Dialga & Palkia Tag Team GX (aka “ADP”) alongside ザシアン V, a very common Pokemon Online deck that holds relentless power. Of course, we all know this deck has been around since forever. Still, it continues to get continuous updates throughout time. The most notable upgrade in recent memory is the addition of クロバットV. The Dark Ascent ability added an extra boost of consistency to the deck, which has allowed it to succeed even in this current crazy quick format. Today I want to talk about how the deck will change and do a quick once over the deck’s overall strategy for anybody who may not know about this deck (or is just a newer player).

I booted up my Pokémon Trading Card Game Online app, loaded up some PTCGO codes, and then traded those Pokémon online codes to trade for this deck. I was very excited, and it honestly didn’t take that many PTCGO codes to make the deck. The main strategy of the ADP Pokémon Online deck is to use Altered Creation on your second turn of the game by manually attaching it to ADP. From there, we can draw extra Prize Cards and wail on lower HP Pokémon or on liability cards such as Dedenne-GX and クロバットV. These are amongst some of our favorite targets because of their limited HP and ability to give us three Prize Cards at a time (two for being a GX/V Pokémon and an additional bonus Prize Card due to Altered Creation). From there, ザシアン V can help us to draw additional cards and accelerate our strategy. Brave Blade, alongside Metal Saucer, can also wreak havoc on so many Pokemon and proves to be very strong against regular HP Pokémon V. We can generally 2HKO most VMAX Pokémon, however, ideally, we would like to take out liabilities on the opponent’s side. In the best case scenario, we can Altered Creation GX turn one (going second) with the help of Metal Saucer and Energy Switch. Follow that up with a Boss’ Orders onto a liability Pokémon, take three Prize Cards. Boss the next turn again and finish the game. Voila! You’ve now won a game with ADP, and that’s all there is to it. This is probably the simplest Pokemon Online deck in the standard format and amongst one of the most consistent decks of all time due to how many draw Pokémon there are in the list.

Our ultimate goal should ALWAYS be to win the game as quickly as possible. While ADP is extremely aggressive, it is also frail and non-resilient. The shorter the game, the higher the chance of winning. Onto the deck list!

2 Arceus & Dialga & Palkia Tag Team GX “ADP” – ADP is the star of the show and has been running things for what feels like a couple of years now. ADP is a 280HP Dragon-type Tag Team GX with one of the game's unique GX attacks. Allowing us to hit new numbers with that +30 damage buff and allowing us to draw extra Prize Cards may be the strongest attack ever to exist. We’re going to use that to our advantage and build the most consistent Pokemon Online deck possible around it. That being said, Ultimate Ray is ADP’s second attack, which allows us to accelerate energy onto our benched Zacians amongst other Pokémon (occasionally our second ADP). ADP is weak to Fairy-type, which is a type that is currently getting phased out in the standard format. Essentially, in the standard format, Fairy-type is pretty much non-existent as there hasn’t been a top-tier competitive Fairy deck in a while. Three retreat cost is a little hefty, but we can make do of that with Air Balloon and our heavy count of Switch/Escape Rope. This card does what it needs to do, and I won’t say much more about it.

3 Zacian V – This card is an absolute menace in standard and is the strongest V Pokémon to get printed so far in the PTCGO metagame. An ability that draws cards in the form of Intrepid Sword is potent enough to make strategies work. However, when you look closer, the ability also reads that you can accelerate energy onto your ザシアン V as well. This is inherently one of the strongest abilities in standard as well because going first, you can use Intrepid Sword to end your turn (since you can’t attack) and potentially get a fully powered Zacian by the end of your turn. That being said, sometimes you don’t accelerate any energy onto Zacian, but the games where you even hit single energy feel so strong. I feel like I win almost every game I start where I hit energy off of Intrepid. 220HP is quite good right now. Fire-type weakness is quite rocky against Welder decks. Two retreat cost is steep, but not too steep as we can mitigate it with Air Balloon. Brave Blade hitting for 230 (or 260 with Altered Creation; 290 with Rusted Sword) is a sweet number for many Pokémon and often can pick up OHKOs. I like four ザシアン V for maxed consistency. However, I needed to make room for other more important PTCGO cards right now.

3 Dedenne-GX – An aggressive drawcard, this is one of the Pokemon Online decks with the highest count of Dedenne-GX in standard right now. It’s because we don’t play a high count of draw Supporters, and we need to hit cards within key turns to maintain tempo during the game. Four Cherish Ball and four Quick Ball will help us find Dedenne-GX with ease.

1 Crobat V – An extension of Dedenne-GX’s ability to draw, Crobat’s Dark Ascent can be a key TCG card when you need to find a certain card on a specific turn.

1 Eldegoss V – This can be used for two Supporters: to draw cards with Professor’s Research or find that game-winning Boss’ Orders from the discard.

1 Mawile-GX – Mawile has one of the most oppressive abilities I’ve seen in a while, being able to play down Pokémon from the opponent’s hand onto their bench. That means if your opponent is trying to mitigate the number of threats on their bench by not playing them, we can force them down with Captivating Wink. Mawile is also a great attacker for only two energy, a Metal Saucer target, and searchable via Cherish Ball.

1 Marshadow – This is probably the most interesting new inclusion, but this is in here because we need to nuke a Path to the Peak when it gets played down. This card is searchable as well via Quick Ball.

4 Boss’ Orders– Need to bring up a Dedenne-GX? Boss’ Orders. Need to bring up a クロバットV? Boss’ Orders. This is the butter to our bread, and we need to play four of these.

1 Great Catcher – An extension of Boss’ Orders, but it isn’t a Supporter. It’s an Item card. That means we can play Professor’s Research and draw into Great Catcher and use both in the same turn.

1 Echoing Horn – This is the game-changer in this Pokemon Online deck. This card is the spiritual successor to Target Whistle, as it allows for you to put Pokémon from your opponent’s discard pile onto their bench forcefully. This means you can OHKO a Crobat V with Ultimate Ray, and then the following turn use Echoing Horn to put it back onto your opponent’s bench and OHKO the same クロバットV on the following turn. That’s all of your Prize Cards in two turns! The best part? It’s an item, it doesn’t take your Supporter for the turn, and your opponent can’t do a thing about it. If they decide to keep the Pokémon in their hand instead of their discard pile? You can use Mawile-GX to throw those Pokémon onto the bench too! Echoing Horn is a welcomed addition to this Pokemon Online deck that will keep your opponent guessing whether you have it or not.

2 Chaotic Swell – Chaotic Swell is a very pivotal card right now in the PTCGO metagame because it is one of the few cards that answers Path to the Peak effectively. Since we play a very limited amount of draw Supporters, we are very susceptible to the opponent playing a Path to the Peak and just wreaking us. I’ve considered playing additional Marshadow over Chaotic Swell because they are searchable (and they can chill on your bench) but sometimes we won’t have bench space to play this guy down. That being said, Chaotic Swell can bump a Path to the Peak AND null the following one your opponent plays, meaning that Swell is a more potent card than Marshadow. That being said, both make the world go round, and without either, ADP wouldn’t be able to survive in the current standard PTCGO metagame.

1 Rusted Sword – We play one copy in here to hit numbers against Tag Team Pokémon. Brave Blade can hit 290 damage with one copy of Rusted Sword attached.

This deck is one of the most consistent top-tier Pokemon Online decks within the format, and it really stands a chance against almost anything in its path. If you like drawing tons of Prize Cards quickly, then I highly urge you to try out this deck.
