Good morning Pokemon Trainers! I hope you’re all doing well and enjoying the release of PTCG Live! There has been a lot of hype behind this platform, and for good reason - it will be the new home for all things eSports-related in the world of Pokémon. There’s a new ranked ladder, a new currency system, and more! Important to note is that there are still PTCGO codes that can be inputted within the game, so be sure to pick some up from our store. There are a lot of new top decks but I wanted to re-review one of my favorite decks, Rapid Strike Urshifu. With its unique positioning in the format, it should be very strong against many single Prize Card Pokemon as well as Arceus VSTAR (which has been seeing an insane amount of play). Let’s do away back play back and look over an updated list for Rapid Strike Urshifu VMAX, aka MelonyFu!

I booted up my Pokemon Trading Card Game Online app, loaded up some PTCGO codes, and then traded those Pokemon online codes to trade for this deck. I was very excited, and it honestly didn’t take that many PTCGO codes to make the deck. If you’re looking to buy some codes, we sell them here on PTCGO Store, and I highly urge you to check out our competitive pricing and swift delivery! Let’s talk about Rapid Strike Urshifu today.

Strategy

The main strategy of this deck is to setup your Rapid Strike Urshifu VMAX alongside multiple インテレオン (CRE) and pick off the most convenient Pokemon from your opponent’s side of the field. You’re able to do this so easily with the aid of Karate Belt, Passimian, and so many other helpful cards that you have in your deck (mostly all searchable via Drizzile). The Rapid Strike Energy you need to accelerate Urshifu’s sniping attack tends to be one of the more difficult cards to find, though it’s important to note this deck applies enough pressure with a simple Gale Thrust on the second turn. Here’s a little play-by-play that this deck can generally follow to achieve its goal, but please acknowledge that this deck is very reactive to what your opponent plays down onto their bench, and heavily depends on if they have opted to include a copy of Mew in their deck.

Rapid Strike Urshifu V

First Turn - you’re going to want to go first ideally with this deck and get a Rapid Strike Urshifu V into play. Attach energy onto Urshifu V. Feel free to bench as many Sobble as you like. Alternatively, if you go second (or you feel the matchup favors yourself going second), feel free to use Sobble’s first attack to get Pokemon into play. This may even be the simpler way of going about things, however, you won’t get the added benefit of an energy drop on Urshifu; this means you’ll require a Melony on your next turn in order to use G-Max Rapid Flow. Settling for a Gale Thrust isn’t bad though! Try and get Remoraid down as well in order to evolve into Octillery on the following turn.

Second TurnAttach energy onto Urshifu V. Evolve. Get as many Drizzile into play as possible by chaining their abilities together and getting Level Ball/Evolution Incense/Ultra Ball. This is so that we can prepare to get many Inteleon (CRE) into play the following turn. Switch Urshifu VMAX into the active position if using Gale Thrust, but ideally, we’d like to use G-Max Rapid Flow to get as much damage onto the board as possible. Use Melony to get extra energy into play if possible. Get Passimian/Telescopic Sight into play for extra damage if you're able to. Try and establish Octillery into play in order to consistently search out Rapid Strike Energy.

Third Turn - Find copies of Melony using any Drizzile you have access to. Evolve into Inteleon CRE and begin sniping Pokémon to setup key KOs. Using Octillery’s ability, search out Rapid Strike Energy from your deck. Attach Rapid Strike Energy to Urshifu VMAX, use Melony, and clean up your opponent’s Pokémon! You’ll often win games by turn four (and even sometimes turn three).

Fourth Turn - Repeat G-Max Rapid Flow until you win the game.

Pro Tip: If your opponent plays down Manaphy going into your second turn, feel free to use your Inteleons to place damage onto it. This can help you to net a KO later on with snipe damage from Inteleon CRE, and allow you to snipe the bench later on.

Key TCG Cards

Rapid Strike Urshifu VMAX

3 Rapid Strike (RS) Urshifu VMAX - RS Urshifu VMAX is a tank to deal with seeing as it has 330HP for the equivalent of Stage 1! This is fairly high as far as VMAX Pokemon go, and puts it out of range of some 2HKOs. For one energy, we see an attack similar to that of Golisopod-GX (which was a very good card for the time). Being able to hit 150 damage for single energy is massive, especially energy denial decks or decks that are very aggressive; low energy attacks mean we can deal with threats very quickly. The second attack, G-Max Rapid Flow, is able to hit two Pokemon for 120 damage! This means we can wipe out Crobat Vs, Lumineon Vs, and many other bench sitters on our opponent’s side. The best part? This isn’t a VSTAR Power – we can do this as many times as we want to in a game. All provided we can continue to power up our RS Urshifu VMAX a second time, which should be no problem with Rapid Strike Energy in combination with our handy Supporter, Melony. Fighting-typing on this card is immaculate as it can really prey on popular Pokemon such as the brand new Arceus VSTAR, or Eternatus VMAX. Psychic-weakness is a bit of a fault on this card due to Mew VMAX and Meloetta’s prominence right now (as well as the return of Shadow Rider Calyrex VMAX with Whimsicott VSTAR), however, we can overcome it by streaming enough Rapid Flows.

Important to note is that Inteleon snipe damage can add up and make G-Max Rapid Flow even more potent - with two snipes from Quick Shooting and a Telescopic Sight alongside 120 damage from Rapid Flow, you can easily wipe one or more Pokémon V off of the field with one single attack (however it will be over the course of two turns, unless you have two Inteleon in play). Don’t forget you can also abuse Passimian’s ability as a damage booster as well. That’s power!

4 Sobble – Usually I like to start with writing about the final Evolution, but in this Pokemon line we’re going to start at the Basic. Sobble’s first attack is extremely efficient at setting up your side of the field consistently. Being able to search out all of the other Sobble in your deck (as well as Rapid Strike Urshifu V, and copies of Remoraid), prepares you to later evolve them into Octillery, Drizzile, and インテレオン which can help you to setup further attackers/board states and just progress the game in your favor in general. We want to get multiple out of these as early as possible, hence why we play four copies of Sobble coupled with high Item counts.

4 Drizzile – You know the drill! This is the main engine of our deck and is essential in helping us setup. Try to keep a Sobble free on your bench so you always have access to Shady Dealings to grab what you need.

インテレオン

3 Inteleon CRE – This Inteleon is a very integral part of our deck; there’s a reason why it just won the most recent Player’s Cup! The main strength of running Inteleon is that it allows you to use its ability order to soften up future threats and then finish them off later with Urshifu - the finishing blow can either be dealt with Gale Thrust or G-Max Rapid Flow if you have the necessary energy. Obviously, setting up multiple Inteleon will always be essential to winning any game. This ability is randomly good against low HP Pokémon as well, such as Manaphy (which is a VERY large antagonist towards our deck), Mad Party Pokémon, and the likes of other One Prize decks. I’d argue Manaphy will almost always be the most targeted Pokemon on our opponent’s side of the field during any given game, considering we don’t play any copies of Boss’ Orders. Without Quick Shooting, we’d have no way to take out this pesky threat.

2-2 Octillery - This is played both as a consistency booster, but mainly as a means to search out Rapid Strike Energy (so you can continuously use G-Max Rapid Flow each turn). This Stage 1 works in combination with Melony to help supply three energy attachments to our Urshifu VMAX each turn.

1 Medicham V - If there’s ever a Pokémon that has very little HP, consider using Yoga Loop on it in order to gain extra turns! This works very well in tandem with Inteleon CRE in order to gain additional access to Quick Shootings on your “earned” turn. Important to note: Medicham places damage counters, so it can get around Manaphy.

1 Passimian - A damage booster for G-Max Rapid Flow. Passimian’s attack can also help us out in a pinch to set up key KOs.

2 Tower of Waters - A solid mobility card for Rapid Strike Pokemon that can potentially remove Path to the Peak from play.

Ultra Ball

1 Ultra Ball - A new addition to the deck, this subtle consistency booster is great for providing an out to both an evolution Pokemon and a basic Pokémon. This is just a deck-building optimization that comes with the release of this reprinted Item card.

4 Melony - Vital for looping G-Max Rapid Flow over and over. A really nice bonus is the fact that you draw cards as well!

Melony

3 Water Energy - These are necessary for usage with Melony.

Conclusion

This deck is a wild card in our format with enough potential to win a tournament. It struggles against Mew VMAX but is extremely polarizing against the rest of the format. If you like beating up on Arceus VSTAR, flexibility each turn, and the ability to play out highly skillful turn-to-turn actions, then I highly urge you to try out this deck. This deck requires some stuff from Brilliant Stars, so you should check out our shop for your PTCGO code needs. I’d suggest nabbing some PTCGO codes and building this deck online because this deck will only get stronger as more damage counter placing cards are released (or as more Fighting-weak Pokemon are popularized). Until next time, have fun!
