Howdy there, Trainer! Here at the PTCGO store, I’ve had the privilege of writing many articles for their blog page, and I wanted to thank everybody for reading these pieces. We aim to be the best online PTCGO code store on the internet, and this blog section is just one part of what makes this website so great. Of all the blogs written for this website, I haven’t yet written about a control deck within the standard format in recent memory, so I figured why not spice it up today? I saw an interesting video from AzulGG, a top YouTuber (who I highly suggest you check out), where he was playing a Corviknight VMAX Control deck that was very interesting. I’m a very big fan of these types of pokemon online decks as I find they often lend a lot of options to the player, in which you can oftentimes find a route to outplay some opponents. The deck wasn’t created by Azul, however, I enjoyed his list and have decided to profile it today as I think it’s an interesting choice for somebody who wants to try out a new style of deck. Let’s swoop into why this bird is in the spotlight today - let’s chat about Corviknight VMAX!

I booted up my Pokemon Trading Card Game Online app, loaded up some PTCGL codes, and then traded those Pokemon online codes to trade for this deck. I was very excited, and it honestly didn’t take that many PTCGO codes to make the deck. If you’re looking to buy some codes, we sell them here on PTCGO Store, and I highly urge you to check out our competitive pricing and swift delivery! Let’s talk about the newest way to play Corviknight VMAX today!

Strategy

This is one of the more difficult decks to pilot within our standard format, however, it leaves lots of options up to the pilot. This “control” strategy involves getting a few pieces into play, but once you do it becomes quite powerful once you add layer after layer. Here’s the strategy is broken down into steps:

  1. Setup as many Corviknight V as possible, and then evolve them into Corviknight VMAX the first chance you get. This is vital to our endgame strategy. Use 1-2 Snorlax to achieve this goal.
  2. Get a Memory Capsule attached to one of your Corviknight VMAX. This will allow you to use Clutch on your following turn.
  3. Play a Yell Horn on the opponent - by confusing them, they will not be able to damage you approximately 50% of the time. Use Clutch from Corviknight V to ensure that the opponent can’t retreat.
  4. Lastly, using Crystal Cave and retreating between VMAXs, you can efficiently heal tons of damage off of your birds before the opponent can take a KO. If necessary, use a Cheryl to fully heal your heavily damaged birds.
  5. Rinse and repeat.
This strategy will usually result in the opponent decking out because they burned too many resources, or you drawing all your Prize Cards as a result of this strategy being too immobilizing for the opponent. Let’s look at the decklist and chat about this interesting concept!

Key TCG Cards

Corviknight V

4 Corviknight V- I usually don’t highlight the Pokémon V before the VMAX, however, this card is what the entire deck is based around! Coming in at 210HP, Corviknight V is an absolute truck of a Metal-type Pokémon that can take a hit considering it has an uncommon weakness to Fire-type Pokémon. Since it is a Metal-type, it can abuse certain cards such as Crystal Cave and Metal Saucer. The resistance to grass is nice against Leafeon VMAX to buffer some damage, and the retreat cost of one is reasonable. The main appeal of this card is the first attack, Clutch, which does 30 damage (which isn’t really a lot) however it makes it so that the opponent can’t retreat. When combined with Team Yell Horn, this attack becomes very destructive towards the opponent and will allow us to evade many attacks. The second attack Sky Hurricane is decent, as it can allow us to pivot between the VMAX’s attack and the V’s (provided you have a Memory Capsule attached to Corviknight).

Corviknight Vmax

4 Corviknight VMAX - This Pokémon may not be the highlight, however, it is an essential upgrade to Corviknight V for many factors. The main reason why the VMAX is so important is that it makes Corviknight V into an evolved Pokémon, meaning we gain access to Cheryl. Full-healing a VMAX is really unheard of in standard format, so this combo stands out. The second factor why this card is amazing is the HP - the +110 boost in hit points allows us to take more hits and deny more Prize Cards. The last essential component this card brings to the table is the free retreat cost - this will allow us to move between Corviknight VMAXs and heal using Crystal Caves. Bonus points for the card having the great ability and a usable attack if we choose to be aggressive in our games.

カビゴン

3 Snorlax - Our deck is a massive setup deck that requires many cards in order to perform its main tasks. Snorlax’s Gormandizer ability is essential to set up our board because it can help us setup multiple Corviknight on the bench while walling with a single Prize Card Pokemon on the bench. Snorlax giving up just one Prize Card is the best part about this card. Ideally, we can feed our opponent two Snorlax KOs, and then if necessary, two Corviknight VMAXs for a total of eight Prize Cards, making it the toughest route possible for them to win!

Cheryl

4 Cheryl - The best healing card in our entire deck. This beast of a card can heal multiple Corviknight, which means we can reset our opponent multiple turns. Cheryl comes at a cost of discarding energy, but when Clutch only costs a single Metal Energy, we really don’t care! Four of these cards are difficult for any deck to deal with unless they can deal 320 damage in a single hit.

4 Avery - This is a really weird Supporter inclusion in our deck, but it all makes sense I promise! Avery is played to draw three cards since we don’t want to discard resources with Professor’s Research, and we don’t want to shuffle our resources in with Marnie. Avery allows us to build huge hands that can be very impactful, especially when our opponent runs out (or fails to find) Marnie. Avery’s added bench disruption can also mitigate damage from decks like Suicune and Sylveon after multiple uses.

1 Bruno - A shuffle-draw Supporter that is one-sided so that you can deck the opponent out. It also doubles as a situationally very potent draw Supporter after a Pokémon is KO’d.

1ToolScrapper - A super useful card since we can’t play Tool Jammer onto Corviknight (we must preserve our one tool slot on each Corviknight for Memory Capsule). Tool Scrapper can get rid of opposing Tool Jammers as well as Air Balloon. It can get rid of the occasional Cape of Toughness as well if need be.

Crystal Cave

4 Crystal Caves - One-sided Stadium cards are amongst some of the strongest strategies you can build upon in the TCG, especially since the rotation of Chaotic Swell in recent memory. Crystal Caves is no different, as it allows us to rotate between our roster of birds and trigger a healing effect that prevents the opponent from hitting key numbers. This card is essential to our strategy, and when our opponent’s active Pokémon is confused, they will often miss a few attacks; that means that we can sometimes heal upwards of 90 damage from each Corviknight over the course of three turns!

1 Boss’ Orders - A great card for targeting down a specific Pokémon and ensuring they can’t escape the active slot after using Clutch. This can also aid you in a deck out scenario to strand a Pokémon active that can’t attack.

Memory capsule

4 Memory Capsule - An essential Pokémon Tool card that allows us to use Clutch. We play four of these to get around Tool Scrapper as well as just getting KO’d in general.

1 Bird Keeper - This card gives us a mobility option to move our カビゴン. Without it, Snorlax could be stranded active.

Yell Horn

4 Team Yell Horn - This Item card is amazing to use on multi-Prize Card Pokémon such as Vs and VMAXs because we can only play this card four times. Team Yell Hornconfuses the opponent which they will be unable to get rid of once they are immobile after a Clutch. It gives us an additional way to damage our opponent, and potentially avoid an attack. More missed attacks mean we don’t have to play as many healing cards as Cheryl.

1 Peonia - Important for fetching out key cards we may have in our Prize Cards. This is especially valuable when you consider that we draw our Prize Cards very slowly, and sometimes we don’t even draw any!

2 Skyla - Can be used to search out some of the key cards that we don’t play too many copies of. Since the game is naturally slower due to all the healing we have, Skyla provides a great option as a Supporter.

2 Pal Pad - Used to recycle Supporters that we want to use as many times as possible, like Cheryl and potentially Boss.

4 Capture Energy - A great card that we can use to power up G-Max Hurricane while simultaneously giving us the ability to setup more Corviknight V.

Conclusion

This deck is one of the best-constructed control pokemon online デッキ to play in the format, and it really has options at all points of the game if you pilot it optimally. If you like whittling down your opponent in a grindy fashion until they have no resources left to use, this deck is the deck for you then. This deck doesn’t require too many PTCGL codes because it only needs a few cards from the new expansion, so it’s perfect for beginners and veterans alike. I’d suggest nabbing some PTCGO codes and building this deck online because this deck will only get stronger. Until next time, have fun!
