Hello Trainers! We’re back with another fun article for you, going over a very cool deck from the newest expansion, Lost Origin. Local events just got announced, Regionals are starting up for the 2022-2023 season, and life is good! Wait…NEW EXPANSION? Yes, there’s a new set coming out! Here is the expansion’s product description in all of its glory:

The Sword & Shield - Lost Origin expansion adds more than 190 cards to the Pokémon Trading Card Game, with an emphasis on Pokémon V, Pokémon VMAX, and especially Pokémon VSTAR! Like Pokémon VMAX, Pokémon VSTAR evolve from Pokémon V, but instead of focusing on huge HP, they boast amazing attacks and Abilities called VSTAR Powers. The Lost Zone returns, appearing in certain card effects, such as Giratina VSTAR’s Lost Impact attack. Cards put in the Lost Zone are out of play for the rest of the game.

The Lost Zone is a very unique game mechanic that offers a lot of skilful play within the Pokémon TCG. Cards like Lost City and Giratina VSTAR will see tons of play, so be sure to build your Pokemon online decks to counter these strategies. With that being said, let’s chat about one of my favourite decks that should be a solid contender for upcoming tournaments, Hisuian Zoroark VSTAR!

I booted up my Pokemon Trading Card Game Online app, loaded up some PTCGO codes, and then traded those Pokemon online codes to trade for this deck. I was very excited, and it honestly didn’t take that many PTCGO codes to make the deck. If you’re looking to buy some codes, we sell them here on PTCGO Store, and I highly urge you to check out our competitive pricing and swift delivery! Let’s talk about the newest way to play Hisuian Zoroark VSTAR!

Strategy

Damagae pumpGapejaw bog

The main strategy of this Hisuian Zoroark VSTAR deck lies within its Ticking Curse attack - relying heavily on getting damaged Pokémon into play, you can really hit high numbers with this attack! High enough to surely KO opposing Pokémon VSTAR and VMAX with relative ease. The main strength in this deck lies within the fact that it is terribly consistent and able to hit for a single Double Turbo Energy! That makes the deck very resilient and able to come back at various points in the game. You’re probably curious as to how we get damaged Pokémon in play: we use Gengar from LOR to place damage on itself upon getting into play, and then we can use Damage Pump, a new trainer from Lost Origin, to move damage off of specific Pokémon in order to spread damage across our bench. Gapejaw Bog, a new Stadium card from Lost Origin, can also emit a similar effect. The combination of these cards maximizes the amount of damage we can do and really helps us setup a good board. If you’re missing a few cards for a big KO, don’t forget to use Zoroark’s VSTAR ability, which is essentially equivalent to playing an extra copy of Professor’s Research once per game! I hope you have fun with this strategy because it is extremely satisfying to play. Let’s check out the list for this new archetype!

Hisuian Zoroark VSTAR

4 Hisuian Zoroark VSTAR
- This is the main bread and butter of our deck, and let me tell you: this Pokémon packs a punch! Zoroark comes in with a staggering 270HP and Colourless-typing, which is unique to the Hisuian region which was introduced in the Legends of Arceus game. The Colourless-typing means that we’re not really hitting anything for weakness necessarily, however, it does mean that we can abuse Colourless Special Energy! This Pokémon has only one attack, and it’s all we need. Ticking Curse deals 50 damage for each damaged Pokémon we have in play, which is easy to do with the help of Gengar, Damage Pump, and Gapejaw Bog. The best part of this attack? It only requires a single Double Turbo Energy, meaning we can swing for 280 damage at any point we want with relative ease! This is enough damage to KO, pretty much any VSTAR in the game, and if we want to take down a Mew VMAX? We can just slap a Choice Belt down and OHKO them. Fighting weakness on this card can be annoying at points, however, it Fighting becomes popular within the meta, we can always splash in a copy of Dunsparce. I almost forgot to mention the VSTAR Power on this thing is basically Professor’s Research but in ability form! With the Phantom Star ability in combination with a copy of Professor’s Research, we can see a total of 14 cards in turn without the use of additional Item cards or Crobat V! Wow, this Pokémon VSTAR is pretty sweet, let’s hop over to the V.

Hisuian Zoroark V

4 Hisuian Zoroark V - This Pokémon is actually a part of why this deck is so good. For zero energy, you can swing for 30 damage and switch into any Pokémon on your bench.

Diancie

2 Diancie - This part is very cool; by sending up Diancie, your opponent won’t be able to play Boss’s Orders to bring up your Hisuian Zoroark V on the bench because of this Pokemon’s unique Princess’s Curtains ability. This means that your opponent won’t be able to take a two Prize Card KO, which is excellent for your Prize Exchange.

Gengar

4 Gengar - We use this Pokémon exclusively for its ability which can help put damaged Pokémon into play from the discard pile. We don’t play any Psychic Energy in this deck so we are unable to use Gengar’s attack - in theory we should never have to use the attack to finish something off though because Zoroark should always be getting an OHKO. The cool thing about this Pokémon is that it can continuously resurrect itself from the discard pile - meaning it can always come back to haunt your opponent even after they knock it out!

Manaphy

1 Manaphy - We’ve included a Manaphy in here just because we will have so many damaged benched Pokémon. Since we don’t want to let our opponent have access to easy KOs, we need to protect our bench. This card also has synergy with Diancie to keep the bench safe.

4 Damage Pump - Pokémon must have been listening to Zoroark for the day because they printed this card specifically for this deck! Damage Pump allows us to manipulate the damage that Gengar accrues from coming onto the bench and essentially spreads it to up to two other Pokémon. This card can be a saviour for getting extra damage into play and effectively helps to buff up our damage with Ticking Curse. You can even use this card to remove damage off of a Pokémon that is close to being KOed in order to save it. Adversely, you can even use it in rare situations in order to KO one of your own Pokémon - the options are endless!

3 Gapejaw Bog - This Stadium is a great bump for Path to the Peak (which can give this deck some trouble at times). Not only that, but it helps in assisting our strategy of damaging our own Pokémon while simultaneously amazing our opponent’s Pokémon as well. Gapejaw Bog is best found in the early stages of the game when you are benching Pokémon, so this card could very easily become a 4-of. We oftentimes will rely on Hisuian Zoroark VSTAR’s VSTAR Power in order to draw extra cards and find this Stadium. Playing four copies could help to mitigate that problem and damage our own Pokémon more consistently.

4 Trekking Shoes - As much as I am a big fan of turbo-based Item cards, the Shoes are a necessity in this deck! We want to run through our deck as fast as we possibly can in an effort to get Gengar into the discard pile (and find Damage Pumps/Gapejaw Bogs). Trekking Shoes can help us sprint to get there faster, all the while making our deck more consistent and less susceptible to hand disruption in the form of Marnie and Roxanne. If you ever find a copy of the card you need on top, pop it into your hand. Otherwise, if unnecessary, discard it!

2 Air Balloons - Since we pivot into Diancie with this deck sometimes, we need an effective option to move our Pokémon; this becomes especially true when you realize we only play four energy cards! These help mobilize our Pokémon while also offering a way for us to switch between heavily damaged VSTARS to avoid giving up Prize Cards.

1 Switch - This copy of Switch serves the same purpose as Air Balloon however it doesn’t burn our retreat for the turn, and also doesn’t get shut off by the likes of Tool Jammer. It also can’t be discarded by cards like Tool Scrapper.

2 Cyllene - Since we are an extremely aggressive deck, having a recovery option can be a valuable tool in our arsenal. Cyllene offers just that, granting us the power to recycle cards from our discard pile to the top of our deck based on a coin flip. This often-times will get us back an energy card, but in some circumstances a Damage Pump or Gapejaw Bog might be a necessary grab. This card's versatility is probably its greatest feature!

Conclusion

This new deck from Lost Origin packs a punch and can really bully VSTAR Pokémon by taking them out in one shot. You can even take out hefty Pokémon like Mew VMAX with the right cards! If you like hitting hard and taking massive OHKOs, then I highly urge you to try out this deck.
